BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- Alabama is going to feel the impact from Isaac as early as tomorrow evening with showers and thunderstorms rotating through the state.
I'm particularly concerned with Wednesday and Thursday. This is when the heaviest rain and tornado potential is expected. Meteorologist Wes Wyatt and myself have been working together this evening figuring how and when our state will be most impacted and we have created some graphics that literally paint a pretty good picture.
The greatest risk from Isaac here in Central and North Central Alabama will be flooding, tornadoes, and gusty winds.
One of the challenges with these systems is tornado detection. The tornadoes are hard to detect and very short-lived....sometimes occuring between volume scans. Most of the time these tornado are fairly weak EF0 or EF1, but occasionally they are a bit stronger. Make sure you are thinking about your severe weather precautions for Wednesday and Thursday just in case.
The best chance for these tornadoes to develop will be in areas south of I-20/59 and west of I-65.
Rainfall will be heavy at times with many areas receiving between 1.5 and 2.5" of rainfall.
If you're in Marengo or Sumter Counties - you may see rainfall amounts exceed 4".
