Grant Submission: Habitat for Horses - Adopt a Pet

We?ve received so many wonderful submissions for the Purina Veterinary Diets? Adopt-a-Pet.com $50,000 Veterinary Care Fund! We were so moved by the amazing lengths rescues and shelters go to give homeless pets a chance at getting healthy so they can be adopted ? and thought you would be too! So we?re sharing some of the submissions, and all of the recipients? stories here on our Shelter Blog. Here?s how a $2,000 grant would (or, in the case of our recipients, WILL) change the life of a pet or pets in their care:

Habitat for Horses, Inc.
Hitchcock, TX

Our resources are down and the number of horses in our care is going up as a lot are returning due to the economy.

We have two mares that were seized on St. Patrick?s Day and they need to be palpated to confirm or rule out pregnancies (Luck of the Irish & Shamrock).
We have a gelding with cancer in his jaw but with treatment he has a great prognosis ? and he?s young. We just need the funds to have the isotope beads inserted (Charlie Roberts).
We have a beautiful young stud who needs to be gelded as soon as possible ? we received him as part of seizure. He is segregated right now to prevent any accidental pregnancies but he is lonely and needs this operation so he can be integrated back into the herd (MoZ).
We have a young mare who was an estray that needs arthritis medicine on an on-going basis. She is 12 years old and was not well cared for at all ? she gets so sore sometimes she can?t stand. There are medicines that will help her but we?re having trouble coming up with the money (Esperanza).
We have three geldings that need their teeth floated so they can gain the last few pounds to completely fill out.? Around the Corner was donated to us very skinny.? Cooper was part of the 1,200 animal seizure we headed up in Montana in January at the Montana Large Animal Sanctuary and Rescue. He also needs his teeth done as does Cowboy. Cowboy came to us from an attorney who offered to take him as part of his payment to work on a divorce. The attorney is a horse lover and when he saw the condition Cowboy was in he said he?d take him to save his life.? While with the attorney Cowboy began gaining weight but now to finish off the last 50-100 lbs needs a visit from the dentist.
We are a 501.c.3 in good standing with the IRS (letter attached) and we have attached our audit letter from 2010.

Thank you for your consideration.
