Pope resigns: Peter Turkson reveals vision for the Church and ?alternative lifestyles? Telegraph, by?Malcolm Moore |
Original Article |
Posted By:HKMK55, 2/13/2013 3:02:52 PM |
Cardinal Peter Turkson, a 64-year-old Ghanaian prelate, is the bookmaker?s early favourite to succeed Pope Benedict XVI. He told The Daily Telegraph Tuesday that his biggest challenge, should he be elected, would be to maintain an orthodox Catholic doctrine while "at the same time knowing how to apply it so that you do not become irrelevant in a world that has continuous changes". Cardinal Turkson, who holds one of the most important jobs in the Roman Curia and has been repeatedly promoted by Pope Benedict, was quick to take a conservative line on gay marriage and other "alternative lifestyles". Headline resplit by staff.
|
Comments: By talking to the press prematurely, Cardinal Turkson gives the appearance at best, of naivet?, and at worst, of campaigning, which will exclude him from consideration at the conclave. At any rate, I believe it is likely that after almost 35 years, the cardinals will elect another Italian.

This guy is an idiot. He?s the one whose office wrote that report calling for a global central bank to ensure ?fairness.? He?s just like his countryman Kofi Annan. He?s not pope material. The guy shouldn?t even be in the public eye.

Maybe the Kenyan president can give him a "Shout Out" and help him with some of those patented campaign techniques. .... s/o....

Let me guess, the Cardinal has evolved about alternative lifestyles. Maybe he?ll borrow Obama?s god voice reverb-ampliphier.

Well, if past history is any indication,"He who enters the conclave as Pope, leaves it as a cardinal." Yes, the cardinals do "campaign" but the campaigning is subtle and sub rosa. If Peter, Cardinal Turkson wanted to ensure he?s not elected pope, campaigning openly like this is a sure way to stay a cardinal.

FTA: ...maintain an orthodox Catholic doctrine while "at the same time knowing how to apply it so that you do not become irrelevant in a world that has continuous changes". Rut-roh. That could end badly. Very badly. Yo, Pete! Call in a rabbi or two or three [no offense] and have a discussion about human nature across the millennia. Get the scoop on how human nature "changed" by some folks who study/studied it like very few others. ?K? Thanks for good posts above. Hope to see more about ol? Pete and other contenders [not meant flatteringly] and prospects. Ronald Reagan made the Presidency more important in the world. Stinky made it a liability to Americans and to the world?s many victim-populations. The Papacy likewise is charged with possibilities both positive and negative, despite having "no [military] divisions" to call into battle. [Sure.]

I?m not Catholic but to hear a Cardinal talk in terms of being relevent in a world of changing lifestyles leads me to wonder. Pedophilia, abortion, homosexual marriages may be ideas bandied about on Oprah but I think God has pretty much established his position already.

I am not of the Catholic faith. What I see are those that want to change the teachings of the church. They want a Pope that okays abortion, gays, same sex marriage. This Pope is only following the teachings of the Bible. While man may accept change, God does not. It was wrong then and still is.

Barak Hussein the Obama, Peter Cardinal the TurkSon. What the former is doing to destroy America, does the latter envision to destroy Catholicism? "My God, my God, why have you forsaken ...?" asked Christ some 2000 years ago.

Some over-reacting here, perhaps. Of course the Church has to find a way to be relevant and evangelize in a secularizing Western world. That?s exactly what JP II did by reaching out to young people, going places Popes didn?t usually visit, writing extensively, etc. No watering down of dogma--in fact, he doubled down in many areas. No, "God doesn?t change" but the Church always has...or do you think the Church resembles in any way the Church of, say, the 4th Century when the Creed was written? Keep mind that all of the voting Cardinals were appointed by either JP II or Benedict; not a lot of libs there. The Catholic Church will remain a bulwark...unlike, say, the spate of "non-denominational" flavors of the week.

Well we were all stunned that this country elected Obama in the first place, and completely devastated that he was re-elected after 4 years of policies that are destroying the country. Why would be be sure that this guy won?t be able to follow the same path? God has a plan. If you don?t confess Jesus as your Lord yet, please hurry.

A Cardinal that enters a conclave anticipating being elected Pope, leaves the conclave a Cardinal.

A big self-promotion article popped up on a Christian website before the ink on the good Pope?s resignation documents was even dry. Cardinal Turkson?s statements and utter lack of humility really makes you wonder about what has happened to the Cardinal selection process. This is most unseemly, to say the least.

Our politics have become so polarized and corrupted that a president of the United States cannot even attend an event devoted to drawing people closer to God and bridge partisan and cultural divides without being lectured about his policies. Last Thursday at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., Dr. Ben Carson, director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and a 2008 recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, broke with a 61-year-old tradition and publicly disagreed with some of the president?s policies, such as "ObamaCare," taxation and the national debt.

On Monday?s broadcast of Fox News Channel?s ?Special Report,? Washington Post columnist Charles Krauthammer predicted that tomorrow night?s State of the Union address will be the political counterpart to President Barack Obama?s fundamentally ?ideological? inaugural speech. ?Well, I?m not sure it will be a speech about ideas or programs,? Krauthammer said. ?In fact, if the inaugural address was this sort of extraordinarily ideological address, I think the State of the Union is going to be extremely aggressive and partisan. Obama is still campaigning. He hasn?t stopped.

Karl Rove was not happy. The conservative base of the Republican Party is not happy. The Ford/Bush-Reagan battle of ideology decades past suddenly renews. What?s going on with Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell? And yes, to wax Carvillian, it is the ideology, stupid. In fact, it is an ideological war. First, Mr. Rove and a leaked email. The date: September 14, 2010. The place: Sean Hannity?s television show. The occasion: The Delaware U.S. Senate primary, won that night by conservative activist Christine O?Donnell. Won by a more than respectable 6 points, 53%-47%. The news reached Karl Rove while appearing on Sean Hannity?s Fox News TV show, as seen here.

This was the moment lightning struck the Vatican today - hours after Pope Benedict XVI?s bolt-from-the-blue resignation. The lightning touched the dome of St. Peter?s Basilica, one of the holiest Catholic churches, after the Pope?s shock admission he lacks strength to do the job. The Vatican stressed that no specific medical condition prompted Benedict?s decision to quit - the first pontiff to do so in 600 years. The move surprised even his closest aides, even though Benedict, 85, had made clear in the past he would step down if he became too old or infirm.

Gabby Giffords is taking her campaign for gun control to the airwaves. Giffords, the former Arizona congresswoman who was shot in the head in 2011, launches a new TV ad this week through her recently-formed "super PAC." The 30-second spot, in which Giffords herself implores America to "get this done," is targeting congressional leaders with ad buys that will reach constituents of House Speaker John Boehner, House Minority Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Over pictures of grieving families after recent massacres in Newtown, Aurora and Tucson, Giffords, who is still

The mother of the 15-year-old honor student who was shot dead days after performing at President Obama?s inauguration spoke out for more gun control Monday after police arrested two gang members for her daughter?s death. ?My baby deserves a revolution and I pray that what happened her to her will have an impact,? said Cleopatra Cowley, whose daughter, Hadiya Pendleton, was killed the Chicago home of President Obama by a stray bullet. Michael Ward, 18, and Kenneth Williams, 20, are now charged with one count of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm,
