Sunshine Coast Council has received strong support for its proactive moves to inform the Coast?s trades businesses and workforce on the new hospital.
Registrations for the Sunshine Coast University Hospital tendering information sessions are approaching 300 and counting
?We want every tradesperson and business in the construction industry on the Coast to have the opportunity to compete for work which will flow from this huge project,? Mayor Mark Jamieson said.
?Obviously there are no guarantees, but we want to encourage all businesses and individuals to find out more about this project and what they need to do if they are considering tendering for hospital-related work as it becomes available.
?The construction of the hospital is a critically important part of our goal to make this region economically sustainable and I want our trades sector to have a chance to share in its bounties.?
The Master Builders Association and Building Services Authority have both endorsed the initiative.
?The Sunshine Coast University Hospital is one of the largest projects underway on the Coast. This project is a great opportunity to utilise the skills and resources of the local construction industry,? MBA regional manager Michael Hopkins said.
?The hospital project information sessions provide an easy way for anyone in the local construction industry to find out about the project. I encourage all local builders and trade contractors to attend one of these information sessions.?
Building Services Authority Area Manager Paul Riches said the council had shown it was ?on the front foot with its efforts to encourage local businesses and workers to the major project?.
The information workshops are being held on the following dates and locations
Monday 13 August ? Big Pineapple Function Centre
Tuesday 14 August ? Lake Kawana Community Centre
Thursday 16 August ? Beerwah Community Centre
Monday, 20 August ? Australis Noosa Lakes Resort, Tewantin
There will also be representatives from Lend Lease and Stockland at these sessions to provide an overview of the University Hospital project and key timelines.
